ART2CURE

FUNDRAISING FOR BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH

Hope Is Where The Art Is

WHO WE ARE

Art2Cure is a luxembourgish non-profit organisation that runs art exhibits to raise funds for biomedical research carried out by Luxembourg-based researchers, often in collaboration with international partners. Gilles Weidig and Philippe Lamesch developed the concept for Art2Cure in 2014 and they organized the first such event in Luxembourg in 2015 on a small scale with 14 Luxembourg-based artists. Since these early days, Art2Cure has seen some substantial growth: In 2016, Art2Cure started partnering with Banque Internationale  Luxembourg which hosted the second and third edition of the art fundraiser within the premises of their well-known gallery in Luxembourg city. Thanks to this partnership it became possible to organize exhibitions on a much larger scale, with dozens of artists participating in each event, counting almost 2000 visitors over the last two years. Since 2015 Art2Cure has raised more than 100 000 EUR to support biomedical research at the University of Luxembourg, especially in the field of Parkinson's disease and rare childhood diseases.

SUPPORTING THE ARTS AND BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH

The Art2Cure events would not be possible if it wasn't for the talented artists participating in the exhibitions. The Art2Cure organization deeply appreciates the artist's commitment to the cause and aims to support the artists in every way possible by providing beautiful spaces and a large network of art-interested visitors. Artworks are sold for market value and revenues are split evenly between the cause and the artists. This concept is fundamentally different from that of a typical art-auction or fundraiser where artists are often asked to donate art for free. The Art2Cure Concept ensures a high-quality exhibition that draws a diverse crowd including supporters of the cause as well as art collectors.

We are looking forward to our first international Art2Cure event in New York City in May 2018.

Fundraising

Over the last few years, Art2Cure has focused their support on biomedical research in neurodegenerative diseases. Ageing diseases related to the brain, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, are a global health, economic and social emergency with numbers affected expected to double by 2030 and more than triple by 2050.

Unfortunately, researchers who dedicate their lives to finding a cure for these diseases often don't receive the funding that they need to carry out research on the highest level. We strongly believe that by bringing together researchers from different backgrounds with complementary expertise, their biomedical research can be accelerated and the paths towards a cure be shortened. We organize high-end art exhibitions in Luxembourg and around the world in order to raise funds for the research collaborations while also creating new opportunities for scientists to promote their research and meet new financial supporters.

At the same time we give artists a Platform to display their work and increase their visibility. Funds from art sales are evenly split between the artists and the cause. Sponsorship funds not used to cover the expenses of the event will be added to the donated funds.
